‘SNEHA’ ANNUAL REPORT: 2004-05

This year we have under taken the following activities:-
1. Sexual Health Project:- The project is implementing to control HIV/AIDS in Warangal Urban, with the support of Andhra Pradesh state AIDS Control Society, Hyderabad, we have been implementing the Targeted Intervention in Migrant population especially Construction Labor & Slum dwellers. We are concentrating on 1) Behavior Change Communication (BCC), 2) Condom Promotion 3) Peer Education 4) Quality STD Care and 5) Enabling Environment. Under this program during the year we covered 8237 high risk individuals, treated 757 STD’s and distributed 2,56,057 condoms.

2. Home Based Care for AIDS patients(Pathway Project):- The Project is implementing for the welfare of the HIV/AIDS Patients in Warangal urban. We will undertake the following activities. 1) AIDS patients Home Visits, 2) Counseling for HIV/AIDS patients 3) Awareness on Health & Hyzine, 4) Yoga & Spiritual training to control suicidal attempts 5) HIV Screening tests 6) Mobile Clinic for AIDS patients 7) Nutrition support for AIDS patients 8) Economical support & skill development training for HIV patients 9) Rehabilitation and Care & Support services.

3. Short Stay Home for Women and Girls:- In this home we will give accommodation for 30 women those who are ill treated by the society, the women who have raped, the women who have failed in love and the parents are not allowing them, the women those who are tarcharing by husbands, or inlaws family members for dowry, the women those who have became mothers before marriage, the women those who went out of the in-laws family by predicting/assuming the characterless of the particular women will be given priority in this home.

4. Type and Shorthand Centre:- We are giving training to the 40 Scheduled Caste unemployed youth every year. The result is above 60% in the Technical board examination for Typewriting & Shorthand. This year we placed 23 of the appeared candidates in different institutions for jobs.

5. Residential Bridge Course:- We have made a survey on Child Labor who are below 14 years and working on hazardous professions, we get them to continue their studies by giving Bridge Course training on residential basis. This year we mainstreamed 104 children in various schools and hostels. Through this program we made the parents to understand the Rights of the children, consequences of violation of child Rights& importance of education etc…

6. Disability (Differently Able Persons) :- We made a survey in 5 mandals of Warangal district to form them as groups and avail government services like Certificates to get bus passes, train passes, and Aids and Appliances. 4 members of SNEHA staff trained in Thirupathi on Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) 1) We want to enable to DAPs to safeguard their self respect and join the mainstream of the society through counseling, confidence building, sensitization of the families and community and organizing them into common interest groups for sharing and co-operation. 2) to Provide support services to overcome their disabilities through provision of aids and appliances, education, recreating and participation amongst the common interest groups. 3) To provide skill development and facilitate them to take up income generation activities through provision of working capital and laisoning with different Government and Non-Government agencies.

7. Skill Development Training:- While working in the villages we observed that many youth are staying idle and lingering here and there we caught hold of such youth, oriented them and joined them in our skill development training programme. We have given training for 25 members in Electrical work. It includes methods of house wiring, electrical fittings, repairs etc, for a period of six months, after this training they started earning.

8. Farmers Development Programme:- Keeping in view the pathetic situation of farmers, to control the cotton farmers suicides in Warangal, we awared in 2 mandals (Geesugonda and Sangem) on Integrated pest management, Non-pesticide management and the importance of environment. Agricultural Research Station Scientist Dr. Jalapati Rao was the resource person for this program. 180 farmers participated in this programe and they clarified their doubts by asking questions.

9. Environmental programes and Plantation:- We awared the people on the importance of Land, Water, and Air and how they are degrading/depleting and polluting. We have planted 500 samplings on road side and another 4000 fruit baring plants distributed among the Scheduled Caste families at Geesugonda and Sangem Mandals.

10. The chief functionary of the organization also gave Legal Aid Services. Mostly we gave services to the women, and family disputes, and 2 Public Interest Litigations were also filed in the court of Law.

11. Computer Center is also running through self managed system. Every year 30 women are training in this center the trainee will contribute Rs. 50/- per month and the remaining rent and other expenditure will be born by the organization the computers are already existed in society. This year we have given training for 32 candidates.

12. Every year Consumer awareness is a part of our activities, it will be happened in every village meeting of the organization. This year we organized this program at Geesugonda and sensitized people on how business men are cheating the people. 230 members were participated in this program.

13. We are running 12 Adult education centers in Warangal urban slums. Now we have 387 members in our centers. The objective of this program is to make adults as literates. Apart from the education we have given some special classes to them to raise moral values.

14. Animal welfare activities i.e. vaccination of stray dogs, axidant animals will be given treatment, left out animals will be sent to our animal welfare center.

15. Women Development programes are the most priority programes of SNEHA, like career guidance for women, Awareness on gender issues, Dowry system, confidence building programme among women, etc. Mr. Pruthvi Raj was the resource person to this program. He has given message with good examples. In this program 250 women were participated.

16. Adopt a village programme with the support of CAPART is also under taken in Anantharam village of the Geesugonda mandal. Under this programme we under taken 1) Dairy Development 2) Drinking water augmentation, 3) Rainwater storage structures, 4) Plantation, 5) Vermi Compost units 6)Tank Desiltation and 7) SHG linkages etc.
